EXPER Project Consortium Meets to Advance Research and Collaboration

The EXPER Project consortium convened on October 16 and 17, 2023, on São Miguel Island to deliberate on future project directions and share the progress made within the framework of their research. The two-day assembly saw fruitful discussions on various aspects of project management, cooperation models, and strategies for the modernization of Widening Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) with an emphasis on research and innovation. The meeting took place at the gracious hospitality of the University of the Azores and included a visit to the NONAGON Park.

The University of the Azores (UAc) reached another step within the EXPER Project on December 6, 2023, with the successful completion of their 1st UAc Individual Strategy workshop. EXPER Project Advances: Establishing Societal Challenges Working Groups for Sustainable Solutions

In a joint effort from October 2023 to January 2024, ITC, leading Work Package 4 (WP4), ULPGC, serving as the EXPER Project coordinator, and UAC have diligently conducted multiple meetings aimed at establishing the “societal challenges working groups (SCWG)” within the framework of the EXPER Project. The 2nd Autumn School, organised by CARE-C of the Cyprus Institute, entitled ‘Atmospheric Measurements Using Miniaturised Sensors and Drones’, held from 30 Oct-3 Nov, 2023, has successfully been concluded and it was attended by 13 students from 10 different countries including Lebanon, Finland, the UK, India, Belgium and other.

EXPER has been diligently working on establishing Societal Challenges Working Groups for Sustainable Solutions, set to be implemented within the project's next year. Additionally, efforts are underway to enhance the appeal of widening universities to talents by improving career conditions. The project is also delving into the analysis of strategies to prevent or mitigate brain drain in the two outermost regions. Furthermore, a diversity strategy for both ULPGC and UAc is in the works. We are also creating connections with the business environment. This includes knowledge transfer and spinoffs, with a focus on enhancing and restructuring existing mechanisms and practices supporting knowledge transfer in EXPER's widening organisations.
