Navigating Progress: A Year of Collaborative Advancement in the EXPER Project
The inaugural year of the project has been characterised by a meticulous assessment of the Azores and Canary Island Regional ecosystems, complemented by co-design endeavours aimed at formulating tailored strategies for each of the Widening Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) affiliated with the project: ULPGC and the UAc. Simultaneously, a comprehensive series of activities were conducted under the aegis of Staff Exchanges, fostering collaboration between the vanguard institutions, namely the University of Rostock (UROS) and the University of Calabria (UNICAL), and our very own ULPGC and UAc. This phase involved rigorous data compilation and analysis, contributing substantively to interactive dialogues, raising collective awareness, and laying the groundwork for surmounting the administrative and legal impediments that can encumber cooperation among widening universities.
In the present juncture, EXPER's Widening Universities are diligently crafting their action plans, meticulously outlining pragmatic activities that will culminate in their modernisation endeavours. As we tread this path, the dedication and synergy of our collaborative network pave the way for a transformative future.

Role of Knowledge and Research in addressing blue economy related challenges and opportunities
The EXPER project goes beyond research and innovation, envisioning a European University Alliance. Connecting Outermost Regions with prominent research institutions, including UAC and ULPGC, it pioneers the blue economy's diverse frontiers. These regions, EU-acknowledged living labs, tap into unique environments for marine sector innovation.
Amid these landscapes, the shift to a circular economy becomes crucial. Fueled by resource reliance and tourism strains, embracing circularity takes centre stage. It harmonises sustainability, resource efficiency, and waste management – vital for these island locales. The realms of blue growth and circular economy emerge as fertile grounds, inviting transformation. As the EXPER project unfurls, we are poised to tap into this potential, propelling a tidal wave of innovation.
Stay tuned for our upcoming campaign on the Role of Knowledge and Research in addressing blue economy opportunities and challenges!
