The winning team of the CLAB ULPGC competition, held as part of the EXPER Project at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC), recently embarked on an inspiring journey to the University of Calabria (UNICAL) from March 18 to 19, 2025. This exclusive trip was the grand prize awarded to the team that secured first place in the inaugural edition of this entrepreneurship initiative, designed to foster innovation and business culture among young talents.
For the aspiring entrepreneurs from the Canary Islands, the visit to UNICAL offered two intensive days of learning, networking, and deep dives into key aspects of business development. The agenda was packed with insightful sessions led by experts, focusing on strategies to transform innovative ideas into viable business ventures.
One of the highlights of the visit was the intellectual property laboratory, where the team had the opportunity to engage with specialists from UNICAL’s Research, Innovation and Social Impact department. This session provided valuable knowledge on protecting innovations, a crucial step for startups looking to enter competitive markets.

The CLAB ULPGC program, inspired by the long-standing Contamination Lab at UNICAL, aims to equip students, recent graduates, and researchers with the skills and resources needed to turn their ideas into successful businesses. By participating in this international exchange, the winners not only expanded their knowledge but also strengthened ties with an entrepreneurial ecosystem that has already fostered numerous success stories in Italy.
This experience represents a key milestone for the CLAB ULPGC initiative, reinforcing its mission to generate and retain talent while connecting young entrepreneurs with international opportunities. With this visit, the winning team gained first-hand exposure to best practices in innovation and business creation, further fuelling their entrepreneurial journey.
